FIW students experience international cooperation at the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme on ‘Green IT’ in Prague
Accompanied by Prof. Dr. Peter Braun and Franziska Königer, they travelled to Prague last week as part of the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) on the topic of ‘Green IT’.
A BIP is an exchange format funded by the European Union that combines virtual courses with a joint presence phase abroad. It offers students the opportunity to work on current issues in international teams, gain intercultural experience and develop both professionally and personally.
In addition to FIW, Reykjavik University (Iceland) and Unicorn University (Czechia) are also participating in the BIP on the topic of ‘Green IT’. The aim of the course is to jointly develop innovative solutions for more sustainable IT while strengthening skills in teamwork, sustainability and intercultural communication.
The BIP runs from October to December 2025 and combines online phases with an international attendance week. After three weeks of online lectures, the nearly 30 participants met at Unicorn University in Prague from 20 to 24 October for the so-called Live Week. The focus there was on intensive teamwork, project development and cultural exchange.
During the week, students from the three participating universities first got to know each other at a kick-off day, formed international teams (with at least one person from each university) and decided on their project topics.
The week was accompanied by workshops on cross-cultural communication and exciting social activities, including a visit to the historic Strahov Library, an excursion to the Research Centre Řež (a centre for research and development in the fields of nuclear energy, reactor physics, chemistry and materials research) and a city tour of Prague. Of course, there was also time to explore the ‘Golden City’ on their own.
After returning home, the students will continue their work in further online sessions and develop their project work. The final presentations will take place in December.
