Prof. Dr. Klaus Junker-Schilling retired in March 2020 after 63 semesters. Since his appointment on 1 October 1986, Klaus Junker-Schilling accompanied the further development of FHWS in many prominent positions and functions:

  • Member of the faculty council from 2006 to 2015 and 2017 to 2019
  • Head of the examination committees from 2006 to 2018 and, among other things, responsible for the organisation of exams and the further development of study and examination regulations
  • Member of the FHWS senate and the FHWS council from 2011 to 2019; from 2013 to 2017 acting as deputy chair of the FHWS senate; he contributed decisively to the new version of the General Examination Regulations of FHWS (APO) issued 2019
  • Internship coordinator for the bachelor’s programme Computer Science from 1988 to 2014 and from 2016 to 2017
  • Representative of the FHWS association of friends “Gesellschaft der Förderer und Freunde der Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften Würzburg-Schweinfurt) in the working group “Arbeitskreis WIP” (Würzburger Informatik Professionals, today the faculty’s alumni network IWInet) from 2000 to 2006

During the final years, his teaching focused mainly on the areas of information security (including the specialisation from 2014 together with Prof. Dr. Kristin Weber) and data communication as well as computer science basics. Before that, i.e. from 2003 to 2014, he taught IT law, data security, programming as well as in the specialisation area communication in distributed systems.

Prof. Eberhard Grötsch retired in March 2016

His subject areas were, among others, automation technology, compiler construction, programming, e.g. with design patterns, as well as algorithms and data structures.
He founded the alumni network IWInet (together with Prof. Lehmann) and was dean of studies and programme director.

Prof. Bernd Breutmann retired in March 2015.

Since his appointment in 1985, he was the head of the data base and documentation system lab; his teaching focused on data bases, algorithms and data structures as well as techniques for content and knowledge engineering. He also was a visiting professor at the University of Central Lancashire (UK), the Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences (Finland) and the Technical University in Sofia (Bulgaria).

Prof. Bernd Breutmann held a variety of functions and offices at FHWS:
2006 to 2011: Vice president of FHWS
2003 to 2006: First dean of the newly established Faculty of Computer Science and Business Information Systems
until 2003: Deputy dean of the faculty
1991 to 2004:  FHWS Coordinator for European Programmes
1996 to 2001: FHWS Coordinator for technology transfer
1992 to 2004:  Head of the EU Office and the European FAST Institute
Member of the FHWS senate and the FIW council for many years

Even after his retirement, Prof. Breutmann has supported our faculty as special representative in the alumni network IWInet

Prof. Dr. Jürgen Spielmann retired at the end of September 2013.

For many years, he held the function of the director of the Computer Science programme and before that he was programme advisor for Computer Science and head of the examination committee. His subject areas were, among others, software engineering, software quality management and project management.

Prof. Dr. Hans-Dieter Tegtmeier retired at the end of September 2008.

He was responsible for literature and head of HARDLAB at FHWS. His subject areas were, among others, IT applications in technology, measurement value logging and processing, imaging with object recognition, language processing, simulation and CNC machines.

Prof. Horst Grauer retired at the end of September 2008.

He lead the computer centre, was chair of the EDP committee and head of SYSLAB at FHWS. His subject areas were, among others, Internet technologies, graphical data and image processing, parallel programming and real time programming.

After 55 semesters of professorial activity at FHWS, Prof. Jürgen Lehmann retired at the end of September 2007.

Among holding numerous courses, he held many functions for many years, such as dean of studies or programme advisor. In addition, he chaired the examination committee and the appointment committee and established and fostered international university contacts, especially to Australia and Switzerland, but was also head of the KOMLAB.

His subject areas were, among others, optimization models, market research, warehousing, statistics, financial mathematics.

Prof. Wolfgang Fischer (1926 – 2003)

He taught at FHWS from 1959 to 1985. He had a prominent role in the introduction of the degree programme Computer Science in the year 1975 and, over many years, was responsible for the establishment and further development of the degree programme.

In the year 2003, he established a foundation four students of our faculty together with his wife, Maria Fischer-Flach.
