Faculty Board of Management

Dean Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sebastian Biedermann

The dean’s duties are derived from Article 38 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (only available in German). The duties include the following:

  • Chairing the faculty council and the committee that allocates certain study related funds (the so called Six-Members-Committee) 
  • Legal representative of the faculty, if it possesses partial legal capacity
  • Member of the extended FHWS management
  • Conducting the faculty’s day-to-day business and carrying out the faculty council’s decisions
  • Responsibility for the proper use of funding 
  • Ensuring that the faculty’s staff meet their obligations
  • Supervising academic and technical staff as well as administrative staff
  • Responsibility for the technical facilities of the faculty 
  • Devising suggestions for the faculty’s further development
  • Deciding about student applications for semesters of leave

A dean is elected for a four-year-term in accordance with Article 9 Section 1 of the Statutes of the THWS (only available in German). The current term of office ends on 30 September 2027.

Deputy Dean Prof. Dr. Frank-Michael Schleif

The Deputy Dean’s duties are derived from Article 39 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (only available in German). The deputy dean substitutes the dean in case of the dean being prevented. 

The deputy dean’s term of office is four years in accordance with Article 9 Section 1 of the Statutes of THWS (only available in German) and is linked to the electoral term of the representatives of teaching staff in the faculty council. The current term of office ends on 30 September 2027.

Dean of Studies Prof. Dr. Isabel John

The dean of studies’ duties are derived from Article 40 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (only available in German). The duties include the following:

  • Ensuring that the courses on offer comply with the respective study and examination regulation
  • Ensuring that students can properly complete their studies within the standard period of study and that their supervision is appropriate
  • Organising the evaluation of teaching activities taking into account the students’ assessments
  • Making statements on the pedagogical aptitude of applicants in the course of appointment procedures
  • Organising the accreditation of degree programmes 

The dean of studies’ term of office is three years in accordance with Article 9 Section 1 of the Statutes of THWS (available only in German). The current term of office ends on 14 March 2027.
