Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) and Christ University in Bengaluru, India, have successfully completed their one-year project – funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) – to develop a double-degree agreement. The new agreement is another important milestone in the long-standing and close partnership between the two universities.

Background to the partnership

Christ University has been a partner university of THWS for almost 20 years. During this time, a wide-ranging collaboration has developed: for many years, Christ University has organised the India Gateway Programme, which THWS offers its students as a unique opportunity to get to know India from an academic, cultural and professional perspective. To date, more than 200 THWS students have gained valuable experience of India through this programme.

Double-degree agreement opens up new opportunities for students

This cooperation is now being further strengthened through the double-degree agreement. In future, students from both universities will have the opportunity to spend a year studying at the respective partner university. Upon successful completion, they will not only receive a degree from their home university, but also a degree from the partner university. At THWS, the agreement is incorporated into the Computer Science degree programme, whilst at Christ University it forms part of the Bachelor of Computer Applications degree programme.

The project strengthens the international focus of both degree programmes and opens up new academic, professional and intercultural perspectives for students. At the same time, it takes the successful collaboration between THWS and Christ University to a new level.

THWS President Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jean Meyer emphasises the successful and trusting collaboration between THWS and Christ University: “The new double-degree agreement offers students excellent opportunities to benefit from the academic strengths and international prospects of both institutions.”

Follow-up project: THWS.Global

The successful completion of the double-degree project is now being followed by a further DAAD-funded initiative: the THWS.Global project aims to further expand the joint teaching activities of both universities. The aim is to offer even more joint courses in future, thereby further strengthening academic cooperation and intercultural exchange between students and teaching staff at both universities
