Smart Technologies for Sustainability, Mobility and Economic Growth: The first international and virtual hackathon at FHWS will take place at the end of May in cooperation with two partner universities from Thailand and China.

Escape the monotonous Corona routine - that's what FHWS students can do at the end of May when they participate in the cross-university hackathon launched at the Faculty of Computer Science and Business Information Systems.

The multi-day event takes place in cooperation with two long-standing partner universities from Asia, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladgrabang (KMITL) in Thailand and Nanjing Tech University Pujiang Institute (NJPJI) in China. Furthermore, in addition to the Faculty of Computer Science and Business Information Systems, several FHWS faculties are involved in the implementation of the hackathon: Architecture and Civil Engineering (FAB), Business Engineering (FWI), Electrical Engineering (FE) and Plastics Engineering and Surveying (FKV).

The theme of the hackathon is Smart City – Urban Planning. Students will work in international teams - ideally consisting of participants from all three universities - to develop concepts and prototypes for everyday life in the cities of tomorrow. One tomorrow may even come sooner than others, because one of the challenges submitted by companies to be tackled by the hackers deals with the issue of opening businesses during the Corona pandemic. Participants can work on digital vaccination passports or wristbands for example, in order to make shopping as risk-free as possible. The challenge was submitted by Depa, the Digital Economy Promotion Agency from Thailand. In addition to Depa, AWS from Singapore and the German company Smart City Solutions from Karlsruhe are also participating in the cross-university hackathon by submitting challenges. Their topics are inclusion and accessibility in public transport and the monitoring of public places.

The hackathon will take place over a period of 36 hours from May 28 to May 30, 2021. During this period, multiple teams will compete against each other within a challenge. At the end of the hackathon, the teams will present their results in short presentations, which will be evaluated by a jury. The winning teams will receive exciting prizes.

The organizers are looking forward to many registrations until May 14!

Participation is open to all interested students of the participating faculties. Further information on the schedule, registration and the challenges can be found on the hackathon's own webpage or by contacting the FHWS Praxis International project team (Franziska Meyer and Maike Antlitz).
