Media Informatics

Overview/Introduction

This specialisation module deals with contributions of computer science and business informatics to the development, organisation and design of multi-media applications. The various techniques of computer science are taught as the basis. Specific areas take a closer look.

Specialisation 1: Computer Graphics

Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Frank Deinzer

Description

This part includes the following contents:

  • Basics of computer graphics
  • Mathematical formulation of graphical tasks
  • 2D/3D graphics by using OpenGL
  • Raytracing.
  • Shader programming
  • Medical visualization

Learning Outcomes

This specialisation module will not address specific professional profiles or sectors, but abilities important in any area of activity in computer science/business informatics and increasingly demanded. The professional environment expects from computer scientists and business informatics specialists mainly sound knowledge in the areas of Internet applications, media standards, databases, graphic user interfaces and distributed systems. Thus, the specialisation module focuses on these areas in particular and, in addition, enables an orientation towards professional practice and application experience.

Specialisation Seminar

Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Frank Deinzer

Description

Today, the concrete techniques and standards of media informatics continue to develop at very short intervals.

The seminar takes up current techniques, which the participants should learn independently in order to acquire the ability to keep up with the short innovation cycles of the industry.

Specialisation 2: Digital Media and Multi-media Techniques

Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Frank Deinzer

Contents

Students can either realize multi-media applications or participate in their realization in an advisory capacity.

Learning Outcomes

  • Basics of media, computer science, mathematics: media elements, coding, transformation of data.
  • Media techniques: compressing images, videos and sound.
  • Multi-media applications: consumer electronics and Internet.

Additional Information

The core modules of the bachelor’s programme teach broad and indispensable informatic techniques, principles and standards which form the basis for multi-media applications.
